Spanish/Castilian Castilian Spanish is one of the five Romance Languages. It originated in Northern Spain and eventually spread to the Kingdom of Castile, which is how it came to be called Castilian Spanish. Today, Spanish is definitely the most widely spoken Romance Language in the world and arguably the second most widely spoken language-spoken by almost 500 million people in 21 nations. Spanish is the official language of Spain, many countries in Latin America and Equatorial Guinea.
U.S.-Based Spanish Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in the United States. Today, Latin Americans make up 13% of the U.S. population-an impressive 40 million people. In fact, Latin Americans in the U.S. have surpassed the population of Canada, and rank as the fifth largest group of Spanish speakers in the world after Mexico, Spain, Colombia, and Argentina. By 2050, this group is expected to grow to 25% of the U.S. population and consist of more than 100 million people. With the already achieved growth rate and the massive amount of growth to come in the future in the Latin American population in the U.S., the ability to communicate effectively in Spanish should be a priority for almost any business. |
